What makes this series different

GDDR7 is a bandwidth event. Token generation is bandwidth-bound, so the 5090's 1792 GB/s is ~8× the 3050 and ~1.8× the 3090 Ti on the same model. For the first time since the 3090 era, the single-card speed ceiling moved a lot.
32 GB — a new tier. The 5090 is the first consumer card where 27–32B models run at Q8_0 and 70B models are a near-fit (IQ3/Q2, or Q4 with heavy partial offload / --n-cpu-moe for MoE).
No NVLink, PCIe 5.0 only. Multi-GPU still works via tensor split, but the split tax is larger than on a 3090 pair. 2× 5090 (64 GB) is interesting for 70B Q4 with room; expect the per-token inter-GPU penalty to cost ~25–35%.
Power and thermals are the price. 575 W TDP on the 5090 (12V-2×6), and the 5080/5070 Ti run hotter than their Ada equivalents. A 24/7 LLM box wants PSU headroom and serious airflow.

16 GB is the ceiling below the flagship Like the RTX 40 Series, the 5060 Ti → 5080 all stop at 16 GB. The jump to the 5090 is not 16 → 32 GB of headroom — it's 16 GB → 32 GB plus nearly double the bandwidth. Budget accordingly: the mid-range 50-series cards are fast 16 GB cards, not 24 GB cards.

Where this series shines for LLMs Value 16 GB: 5060 Ti 16G. Speed-per-16-GB: 5070 Ti / 5080. Single-card flagship: 5090 — the only consumer card that runs 27B at Q8 and approaches 70B without a second GPU.
